Although in-person lessons are preferred, Elaine offers online piano lessons to advanced students who are located out of town.
The setup is fairly easy, but the first few lessons will take some getting used to, with some possible technological problems but it will not be a big deal. As long as I can hear you pretty well, the quality of our video is not too important at this time.
Occasionally there might be glitches in the internet connection or slight echoes, so the best way to deal with this is to end the meeting and join back on which usually fixes the problem.
To start, you’ll need:
1. A device such as a laptop or tablet or desktop (all these devices have a built-in camera and microphone). We might have to try several devices before we figure out which device works best for you. Please make sure the device is fully charged during the lesson!
2. Somewhere to place the device during online lessons such as a table, stool, chair, or stand. Position your device a little distance on the side the piano so I can see your profile, especially your hands on the piano. Feel free to tilt the device at an appropriate angle.
3. The Zoom video conferencing software app.
a) Type in your browser Zoom.us/download and click the blue Download button.
b) Install the Zoom app onto your device. Install the application. Sign up by clicking the Sign Up Free and entering your email address.
c) You will receive an email from Zoom to activate your Zoom account. Click the blue Activate Account button.
d) Fill in your first name, last name, select a password and click on the orange Continue button.
4. When it is lesson time, I will send you an email with the link to join my meeting room, click on the link.
5. Extra Tips:
Test your video sound quality by going to down to the bottom left of the Zoom app screen and click upward arrow and click Audio Settings.
Click the Advanced button and checkmark the box Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original Sound” from microphone box
Select Disable for “Suppress Persistent Background Noise”
Select Disable for “Suppress Intermittent Background Noise”

Here is a good sample setup. This is how it would look if you had a laptop and a table, so if the table is too low you can put some books underneath to position the device at a good angle to be able to see your profile and hands.
Let me know if you have any difficulties, we will work through it together! Thanks, Elaine Gan edmontonpianoteachers.weebly.com [email protected] 7807078073 |
